The most common flea worldwide, is the cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis). The cat flea is a parasite of dogs, cats, opossums, raccoons, foxes and coyotes. It’s the most common flea pest on the Treasure Coast.
Once an infestation occurs, it is difficult for the homeowner to solve the problem. Animals must be treated by the homeowner or a veterinarian in conjunction with a premise application.
In preparation for a flea treatment in a residence, the home or office owner must vacuum all rugs and furniture and mop all linoleum, wood or tile floors. The indoor premise is then treated with an adulticide/larvacide combination. The treatment is repeated in 14 days.
If your pet spends anytime outdoors, those areas must be treated simultaneously with your indoor service. Again, dual applications are a must if control is to be achieved. In cases of severe infestation, additional applications may be required.
Annual protection can be achieved with quarterly inside and monthly outside treatments.
